More and more places in Japan charge an accommodation tax: Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Hokkaido, Fukuoka, Okinawa and more. Each works differently — fixed amounts by price bracket, a percentage of the rate, or two layers (prefecture + city) as in Hokkaido.

Do children pay too?
